World War I Commemoration & Encampment
May 13, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
The Newtown Historical Society, in partnership with the Museum of Connecticut Library of Hartford and the 2nd Governor’s Horse Guard of Newtown, will host a World War I Commemoration & Encampment on May 13, 2023 from 9 am to 4 pm on the Horse Guard’s Grounds at 4 Wildlife Drive, Newtown, in remembrance of the Connecticut soldiers who fought at Seicheprey, France. This event is free to the public.
A community tent will be open to give more information on how to volunteer with the Newtown Historical Society and the 2nd Governor’s Horse Guard. Both organizations will have displays about Newtown’s involvement in WWI, so it is a great opportunity to connect with the town’s local history. Local schools and universities, who have been working on artifacts from the battlefield, will also be present to discuss their research and findings. For more information: [email protected]
