DESCRIPTION:QPR Training will be held at the Newtown Community Center. QPR stands for Question\, Persuade and Refer\, a suicide prevention program designed to help individuals recognize and respond to someone in crisis. \nQPR is a community-based\, evidence informed suicide prevention training that teaches participants how to identify warning signs of suicide and take immediate action to help someone at risk. The training is modeled similarly to CPR\, providing a structured\, step-by-step approach to intervene in a crisis. \nYou will learn to: \n\nRecognize the warning signs and risk factors for suicide.\nIntervene and ask tough questions when someone is at risk for suicide.\nEffectively support other community members struggling with mental health issues and suicidal feelings.\n\nThis training is co-sponsored by The Rotary Club of Newtown and the Newtown Suicide Prevention Initiative. \nClick here to register or send an email to newtownspinitiative@gmail.com. To help seniors make informed decisions on who to vote for\, the Senior Center and FONS are holding a series to get you familiar with the roles\, issues\, and candidates. Dan Rosenthal\, former 3-term First Selectman and now First Vice President at Newtown Savings Bank\, will lead the first session which will explain what Town Bodies are chartered to do and some of their issues. Your questions and concerns for specific Town Bodies will be collected and presented to the candidates. The parade route is about 1.5 miles over a 1 ½ to 2-hour time interval (10 am to Noon—parade line-up begins at 8:30 – 9:00 am). We have seats for six to eight passengers in one of our three vehicles. \nSign up by August 27 via email at monettes@comcast.net or call\n617-447-3712 with your contact information (name\, phone and/or e-mail). \nNOTE: Walkers are limited to the first 20 responses (otherwise please plan to cheer us on by participating as an onlooker).
